The governing body is ultimately responsible for the success of the school and the quality of education provided to students. The headteacher leads the school and the governors work with him or her to ensure things are working effectively. In particular we have three key functions:

​

1.      Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction; 

2.      Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its students; 

3.      Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

 

The governing body works as a group. All governors have full voting rights unless the vote is with regard to an issue where the governor has a pecuniary interest. We meet formally as a full governing body approximately seven times each year. We also visit the school regularly and arrange 'working party' meetings to tackle particular risks and issues. 

 

Our purpose is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.  Our activity is guided by the Department of Education's Governance Handbook and the College's ethos, values and priorities. We work within school governance regulations and statutory requirements.
